The National Library of Armenia is the world’s largest repository of Armenian published works, which had a vision of extracting Armenian text from the scanned library content to make its text searchable and available to the public.
Portmind is partnering with the National Library of Armenia by providing an in-house-built Armenian OCR solution to extract text from the scanned library data. The initial scope of the partnership includes data extraction from 11,000,000+ pages of scanned content.
This project has significant social value, and Portmind is excited to contribute to the preservation of national heritage and help the Library with the task of text extraction.
As the world’s largest repository of Armenian published works, as well as a center of library science and information, The National Library of Armenia collects, processes, and preserves the published materials of the Republic of Armenia and ensures their full accessibility for readers through all available platforms. The various functions of the library include reader services (membership, interlibrary loan, reading rooms, etc.), the acquisition of printed materials, preservation and digitization of library materials, as well as bibliographic research.
